Book List

Each year I take a challenge to read more books than I did last year. I know…nerd. Here’s the 2011 book list. The bolded ones were my favorites.

  1. “My Name is Asher Lev” by Chaim Potok
  2. “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” by Mitch Albom
  3. “Skinny Bitch” by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin
  4. “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen
  5. “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” by Jonathan Safran Foer
  6. “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett
  7. “The Sacrament of the Present Moment” by Jean-Pierre de Caussade (I wrote about this one here)
  8. “Peace is Every Step” by Thich Nhat Hanh
  9. “The War of Art” by Steven Press-field
  10. “Girls in White Dresses” by Jennifer Close
  11. “The Diary of a Country Priest” by George Bernanos
  12. “Why We Can’t Wait” by Martin Luther King, Jr.
  13. “Holidays on Ice” by David Sedaris
  14. “Bossy Pants” by Tina Fey
  15. “Gilead” by Marilynne Robinson
  16. “Meditations of the Heart” by Howard Thurman

  1. I’ve been told War of Art is really good by a few people. So I guess I should give it a go? If you’ve never read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance or any Wendell Berry, that would be my recommendation!

  2. I just finished Rules of Civility by Amor Towles. Beautifully descriptive writing about NYC in the end of the depression era. Good read.

  3. Just read a book titled Same Kind of Different as Me. Easy read and has a challenge to the Christian – well maybe more than one challenge.

  4. water for elephants (loved, much better than movie)
The Help (surprised by how much I loved the movie)
    the B-I-B-L-E (a constant read )
about 3 others that didnt make a mark on my memory as to what they were haha
