Day 35: August 2, 2009
Top of the hat to all of you faithful readers! Well, today marks our last day of our five-week/12 country-backpacking journey. I can’t believe it…it really has flown by. We finished our Walkabout by taking a day tour of Ireland. I’m talking about green rolling hills, some ba-a-ah sheep, and sparkling lakes and waterfalls. Our tour explored the region of Glendalough and discovered a 6th century monastic settlement nestled within the Wicklow Mountains. We traveled through the towns of Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey where Bono, U2, Enya, and Van Morrison live, and for one of my favorite moments,
went to a road/bridge/&valley where “P.S. I Love You” was filmed! (The scene in the beginning and he asks her if she is lost! Ahhh!)
Both Amy and I really enjoyed walking through Wicklow’s National Park for an hour or so. We had plenty of opportunities to explore a waterfall, the two lakes of Glendalough, climb
(ok, attempt to climb) a tree or two, endeavor a few cartwheels on the lakeside, and take a few photographs of some wooly sheep! The day was a perfect introduction to Ireland, and a conclusion to our wonderful walkabout.
